AZ, can they be a real championship contender?
For the last years AZ seesm to be the only club being able to fight with the traditional top3 in the Netherlands. However, late in the season they always went down, they simply were not used to play such a long season on high level. The first match yesterday resulted in a 8-1 trashing of NAC Breda (while someone actually thought NAC could win 1-3 before the match).
AZ bought many (talented) players and could do well in the 4-4-2 system used by coach Louis van Gaal yesterday. Do you hear much of AZ abroad? Here AZ is known as a small club owned b a rich guy who managed to bring in a good technical director (now at Ajax) and great coach (Co Adriaanse), followed by another great coach and a new stadium. Every year people expect AZ to not be able to really play with the big boys, but so far every year they impress a lot in the beginning of the season...
