Ronaldo was happy to set a new record after scoring his 15th World Cup finals goal in the 3-0 win over Ghana.

The Real Madrid ace overtook Gerd Muller as the competition's all-time top scorer with his fifth minute strike against Ghana in Dortmund on Tuesday.

Ronaldo insists the record was never in his mind and although he was happy to break Muller's achievement, he is adamant success in the tournament is his main aim.

"That (the record) was never my goal, it's just something that's happened," said Ronaldo. "I'm happy to have broken this record, for seven World Cups it has not been broken.

"It's a great satisfaction to make this record, but let's not forget our main objective is to reach the final.

"The players are very confident and our team is meeting our goals."

Ronaldo's goal was a trademark strike with the striker producing some neat footwork to beat Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingston and he felt he had to do something special to score.

"I hope they continue falling for my tricks up to the final," he said, referring to his clever dummy of Kingston in scoring.

"I sensed I had to trick the goalie somehow. I figured it would complicate things if I kept the ball too long so I decided to do that dribble."

Ronaldo says he is thriving on the pressure he is under to perform, although he concedes Ghana gave them a tough time.

"It wasn't easy to play today. Everyone who plays Brazil will give everything," noted Ronaldo.

"If people put me under pressure, it's actually good for me because then I can show what I can really do."
